'HELPS' - Jesus Speaks

Example:  Matthew 22:15-17, tells us,  "Then the Pharisees went and plotted together how they might trap Him in what He said.  And they sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any. “Tell us then, what do You think? Is it lawful to give a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?”

Jesus responds

Matthew 22:18 says, "But Jesus perceived their malice, and said, “Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites."

The result

Mathew 22:22  says,  "And hearing this, they were amazed, and leaving Him, they went away."

Example:  Matthew 17:15, tells us of a man who calls on Jesus, and says, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is a lunatic and is very ill; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. “I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him.”

Jesus responds

Verse17.  "And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”

The result

Verse18.  "And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured at once.

Verse 19.  "Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not drive it out?” Verse 20.  And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith."

Example:   John 18:33 tells us, "Therefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?”

Jesus Responds

Verse 34.  "Jesus answered, “Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell you about Me?”

Verse 35.  "Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what have You done?”

Jesus Responds

Verse 36.  "Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”

Verse 37.  "Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?”

Jesus Responds

Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

The Result

Verse 38.  "Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?”  And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in Him."

Example:  John 4:7, tells us, "There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” Verse 8. For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Verse 9. Therefore, the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

Jesus responds

Verse 10.  "Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

Verse 11.  "She said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water?  Verse 12.  “You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?”

Jesus responds

Verse 13.  "Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; Verse 14. but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

Verse 15.  "The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.”

Jesus responds

Verse 16. He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.”

Verse 17.  The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.”

Jesus responds

"Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’; Verse 18.  for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”

Verse 19.  "The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. Verse 20. “Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”

Jesus responds

Verse 21.  "Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. Verse 22.  “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. Verse 23. “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. Verse 24.  “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Verse 25.  "The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”

Jesus responds

Verse 26.  "Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

The Result

Verse 28.  "So the woman left her water pot, and went into the city and said to the men, verse 29.Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?Verse 30. They went out of the city, and were coming to Him."
