And I ask…

My wife likes to quote a favorite preacher (Alistair Begg), who likes to say, “The main things are the plain things, and the plain things are the main things.”

I try to remember and practice this when reading, talking about or studying the Bible.  The problem is that sometimes the MAIN THING isn’t so PLAIN to me.

  1. For example, when the Bible says (i.e., GOD SAYS),

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. Isaiah 55:8

*Is He saying that I CANNOT fully understand Him?

  1. Another Example is when the Bible says (GOD SAYS),

“In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;”  Romans 8:26

*Is He saying that I CANNOT fully understand Him?

  1. And, one last example is when the Bible says (GOD SAYS),

“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed their of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.”  Hebrews 1:1-3

*Is He saying that I CAN fully understand Him?

So which is it?  CAN I or CAN I NOT?

C.S. Lewis, from the early to mid 1900s, a well known and influential British writer and author of widely read books such as The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy, and for his non-fiction Christian apologetics, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, and The Problem of Pain, says, in part, that we should accept those things about God which we can understand and put aside those things that trouble us or which we cannot understand, for now, until God reveals them to us.

WHAT IF?

However, as I am beginning to see these verses in a different light, I have to ask,   “What if these verses are saying exactly what they mean?”  And, what are the implications to us and to our world?  (Really – THIS IS BIG!)

If you want to come with me, please come to “AND I ASK, AGAIN – P2” and let’s explore & talk…
