What Is This Strange new ‘gospel’?
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly, are ferocious wolves” Matthew 7:15
What is this strange and titillating new ‘gospel’ I am hearing, and where is it leading?
“The biggest mistake we make is that we think sermons will produce spiritual maturity” – Rick Warren, Saddleback Church
“Are you suggesting to me that heaven is an actual place? That the place of God is an individual place that you go? – Doug Pagitt, pastor, author
“Yes, I am a gay affirming pastor. I don’t think there is a thing wrong with homosexuality…”
“Yes, I am definitely questioning the atonement…” Jay Bakker, son of Jimmy and Tammy Faye Bakker
“The Cross isn’t the center, then, the Cross is almost a distraction and false advertising for God.” Brian McLaren, pastor, emergent church leader
“Then here comes Rob Bell. He’s made a Christian Gospel for you, and it’s perfectly palatable and much easier to swallow” (Rob Bell says THERE IS NO HELL – Interview on MSNBC)
Please listen and hear, dear friends. Many false teachers – yes, the very ones you think sound so good – are mixing error and lies with a dash of Truth. It is called “Syncretism”, the
Reconciliation or fusion of differing systems of belief, as in philosophy or religion, especially when success is partial or the result is heterogeneous.
The merging of two or more originally different inflectional forms.
The attempted reconciliation or union of irreconcilable principles or parties, as in philosophy or religion;
The modern/post-modern religious humanist and ecumenical movements in America and other parts of the world, are practicing syncretism, that is, they believe that all religious beliefs, philosophical teachings, and government systems are ultimately compatible, or a reflection of, a larger system. They practice a “one world, two systems” policies – pronouncing that all people had religious freedom, political freedom, and freedom of thought, yet maintaining strict control.
False doctrines and false teachings come and go. False teachers come and go. The problem is that they take thousands and millions with them where they go – and they are NOT going to “a place in God’s house that Jesus has prepared for them”. No, it is a place of darkness and of wailing and of gnashing of teeth.
The Gospel is about Jesus, not about you or me. The Gospel is about God’s Grace and the finished work of Jesus on the cross, through the tomb and being raised to eternal life, so that we may live and serve Him!
Your Brother and Friend,
Mike Young
